Votives
Votive candles are designed to liquify into a pool of wax
and should always be burned in the proper size holder. A snug fit, in a flat-bottomed holder is recommended to insure the
proper burning time.
Always remove the spent metal wick clip and remove the bottom burn label (which may act like
another wick if not removed) prior to adding a new votive to the holder, and never be afraid to discard a little wax at the
end of the burn.
Consumers frequently ask why they should not burn a candle to total completion. For safety's sake,
discontinue use when 1/2" of unmelted wax remains. This will prevent the flame from coming in direct contact with the glass
container and causing any possible breakage.
When cleaning holders, avoid scraping with a metal object. Abrasions
to the inner or outer surfaces weaken the glass and could lead to breakage. A small amount of water placed in the holder before
lighting will make clean up a breeze. Other easy ways to clean out a holder are freezing the votive cup or rinsing with hot
water.
Pillars
They are carefully designed to hold the pool of wax. However, always place them
on a flat, non-flammable and heat resistant candle plate to protect your fine furnishings. At each lighting of a pillar,
burn it long enough to form an even pool of wax across the surface. The candle will burn evenly and efficiently from then
on.
Container or Jar Candle Do not burn more than
three hours per lighting. Let candle cool then trim wick. Trim to 1/4 inch. Keep candle free of matches or wick trimmings
Keeping the wick trimmed properly will produce a clean burn, with less smoke or soot.
Always remember to extinguish candles before leaving a room or going to bed for the night.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
When arranging your candles always remember children and pets. Place candles
where they can never be toppled over by pets or children.
Finally, do not put them too close to combustible materials
- which includes window coverings, bed linens and other decorative accessories.
Remember - to achieve the best burning
performance from your candles, clean and trim the wick to 1/4" before each lighting, and always avoid placing them in a draft.
Ceiling fans, fireplaces and heating ducts all can create drafts.
Take care to trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting and continue to keep trimmed throughout
the duration of the burn. Watch for visible smoke. All candles can produce a small amount of soot or visible smoking. Be attentive
to the signs - extinguish and trim the wick to the proper length.
A flickering flame produces increased visible smoke
and that flickering flame indicates the presence of air currents.
Keep your candles out of drafts, and remember drafts
may be caused by more than just open windows and doors.
Heating and air-conditioning vents, overhead fans, fireplace
openings and high traffic areas can all disturb the flame.
A smooth even flame will ensure a clean and efficient burn.
Be ATTENTIVE to where your candles are placed and NEVER BURN UNATTENDED |
